There are innumerable sources of information on contemporary Indian art and artists
There are the publications and libraries of the national Lalit Kala Akademi, National Gallery of Modern Art, National Museum, and several art colleges as well as museums all over India. Of particular interest are the artists' directory and paperbacks on a number of artists, giving a brief biography, critique and photographs of selected works published by the Lalit Kala Akademi. We also have a host of independent publishers like Marg Publications and Art India. They have published volumes of deep and extensive studies accompanied by excellent visuals.
Newspapers are a good source of information to the art prospector and lover. Periodic art reviews and interviews give good insights to the local art scene. Several new magazines on art with informed contributions by curators and gallerists are another credible source that provide insights into the working of an artist.
With the World Wide Web as the largest and most exhaustive source of information, understanding and locating site-specific information on Indian art and artists is just a mouse-click away. However, with art being a visual medium, tangible in its essence and impact, the best way to garner facts and figures about a work of art is to visit the exhibition centre and experience it for yourself.
